Year One: Just the Beginning

by Zach October 29, 2013

It was only in the relatively short span of 365 days previous that we held our breath and threw the switch, sending our brand new website live and introducing our SASTAN Jersey and Soft Shell A/M Shorts to the mountain biking community. Over the course of the next 52 weeks, waves of press would come rolling in, which celebrated the arrival of a no-holds-barred approach to quality mountain biking apparel, while raving about the attention to detail on our shorts. Internally, we knew our subsequently launched Mixed Shell jacket was a home run, but what a thrill it was to have both Outside Magazine and BikeMag affirm its superlative function and value. We’re proud to have created a kit not only loved by everyone who’s ridden in it, but one that we ourselves can’t wait to pull on, ride after ride.

As we worked our way through each new season and product introduction, we put nearly 30,000 miles on our Sprinter van visiting trailheads all across the country, and making new friends all the while. Our kit also traveled well north of the border, when it was featured in a short film documenting some of the very finest winter riding British Columbia has to offer. Our rookie year also marked the production launch of our ongoing #whyMTB video series; a collection of moving portraits from those who continually inspire and remind us why we love to ride.

We can’t thank you enough for your support; for telling your friends about Kitsbow, and for taking time this year to follow along on this ride. For those that liked our Instagram photos, commented on our Facebook posts, subscribed to our weekly email communications; and to those who have tried our kit, said ‘hello’ to us at an event, or lead us around your favorite trail system — thanks, from everyone at Kitsbow. We couldn’t have done this without you.

And now if you’ll excuse us, we have an appointment with a bottle of champagne.

Here’s to Year Two. [zp]

Word on the street is that the mountain bike scene in Arkansas is something pretty incredible. JKW wanted to check out the trails, and really wanted to meet the people behind this movement and who live it daily.

We’re a mountain bike group at heart. Sure, we ride on the roads when it’s too wet to ride on dirt but for the most part, we just do it to keep in shape. Living in the Baltimore/Annapolis/Washington metro area there is more to offer than you might think for off-road riding. Riding on the roads, with the kind of traffic we face here, just isn’t something any of us look forward to doing. A tree won’t actively try to kill you like some loon with road rage.
