Mescal ventilated short
If you can stand the wait it’s well worth it! Most comfortable and best fitting shorts I own. They can be worn casually without looking like a tool and they can be worn on the bike and function. Without a doubt my favorite piece of kit.
Hook belt comes loose
I've ridden in these the past year and find a few things that drop them into 3 star territory. - the hook belt won't stay tight throughout a ride. I usually find it will stay somewhat snug for 30mins, then they start to sag - the seat material gets a little grabby when damp - not that big of a deal, but notice it if I haven't dropped my seat to descend - I like the location of the pockets, but had one work it's way down on a ride The quality and construction are great, but I'm going to retire them as MTB shorts this year.
Top quality sports
I appreciate the construction, the breathability, and feel. I deducted a half star for the pockets which work great while riding, but the angle feels too weird when off the bike. The other half star deduction is for the belt. The belt needs to be recinched after a while. Those are personal quibbles though. If you need a lightweight cycling focused sport, but these. I am a 36 inch waist. XL fits properly.
These shorts are champ...
Love these shorts, my absolute favorite.
Great material, pockets take a little getting used to
This is a very nice riding short (rated the best by Outdoor Gear Lab!), but a quite different design than the Haskell shorts. Those have a thicker material and look more like dress shorts. The Mezcal shorts only have zippered side pockets where your stuff (phone etc) goes backwards (a small key pocket like in the Haskell shorts would be nice if they can work it into the next design). So the Mezcals are very much designed to be worn on the bike, and less as all-purpose shorts that you can also bike in. The sizing seems a little bigger too. The built-in belt helps with that, but was still a little awkward for me.
