Our Backforty Longsleeve Shirt is truly born of an Icon. This is hardly an iteration of the Icon shirt, yet it shares many of the same features our customers have grown to love about it.
We used the same quality buttons, added ventilation across the back, tossed our signature stash pocket on the rear, and obsessed over designing the Backforty with the same tailored fit that many of our customers love.
The quality buttons make for easy snap adjustments, allowing for multiple combinations of ventilation. Using an engineered blend of fibers, this shirt maintains the comfort of cotton while allowing for the benefits of synthetics. The Backforty Longsleeve Shirt keeps the body cooler, drier and more comfortable than a shirt with all natural fibers.
With vintage-style plaid cues from our Pendleton ombre plaids, we're excited to present the Backforty Longsleeve Shirt for the months where you want a long sleeve, but still need some ventilation. The Backforty will help protect your skin against the elements, while maintaining comfort and style.
Good to see that Kitsbow released a nice shirt for hotter weather! I picked up the Mineral Blue Oxford, which has a nice sharkskin sheen. While I generally stick to more casual short sleeve shirts when I can, I needed a new shirt for occasions that call for nicer attire and the Backforty will keep me cool, comfy and stylish. I love Kitsbow's lifestyle wear as much as the more technical gear, and this is another example of the clean lines and distinct styling that has rapidly made Kitsbow the dominant brand in my wardrobe. I'll look forward to picking up the Essplanade shirt next, as I'm loving the Cedar Oxford color!
I like the shirts. I like the way the icon series fits better, they have a little more give in the shoulders. I agree with the previous comments/ reviews. The pocket in the back is not so useful. The shoulders should be more like icon, free for the handlebar stretch! None the less I still like the shirt and materials. Should be noted that the latest edition, the solid blue one, of this line is a different material. It is a little heavier.
First off, I really like this shirt. I ordered the grey version, first, in a size large. I liked it so much, I went back online to order the blue version and it was already sold out. I was disappointed because it was just released! So, knowing what I know now, I wanted to provide insights on the sizing. Compared to all other Kitsbow shirts/jackets I've purchased, so far, this fits much larger around the waist. It doesn't have that slim/more tailored fit like the Merino Henley for instance. I'm 6ft, 156lbs with broader shoulders and a size 30 waist. So this shirt balloons out more than I'd like. I would go with a medium, but then the shoulders would be too constricting. I think the sizing guide on the site initially indicated that it was slim fitting and it looks like it's been updated, however, the sizing page still indicates that it is slim fitting. I will definitely purchase the blue once it's available...just wanted to help others find the right size. The fabric is very soft and sturdy and doesn't wrinkle easily. I haven't worn it on the bike, but I have worn it to the office and appreciate the easy care. It truly is a versatile piece. Now I'm just waiting on Kitsbow to get several other items back in stock so I can purchase them.
I've been a huge fan of the Icon since its inception and now have 5 different colors that I regularly rotate through all winter/fall/spring as my go-to primary shirt of choice for bike commuting and social life. I was pretty excited to see a summer version of the Icon introduced that appeared to fill a niche I'd been seeking for years. I wanted a lightweight, breathable, white-ish colored, long sleeve shirt to keep my arms covered so I had two less body parts to slather with sticky sunscreen. I loved that they continue use these amazing plastic snaps instead of buttons, probably one of my favorite features on the Icon and now the Backforty, makes me wish other clothing companies used them. Regarding fit, I unfortunately find myself between Small and Medium in Kitsbow shirts so it was hard to choose. I normally wear a medium in the Icon since I will often pair it with a wool undershirt and that works out pretty well but the Backforty will be worn alone so their medium size was way too huge and billowy on my slim body. I exchanged for a small and the length and width on my abdomen fits much better but the shoulders of the are very tight when crouched over a bike. I was a little disappointed that the Backforty didn't get the same articulated shoulder vents that the Icon has since they're flexible & make it possible to size down without restricting shoulder comfort while riding. Maybe they will include in Backforty 2.0? Also love the snap chest pockets as always, wallet and other items fit great in them since they have lots of space and easy access. The rear/side zipper pocket on the other hand is a really dumb feature. There is a similar pocket on the Haskell pants about halfway down the leg and I despise these pockets on both garments. They are far too small for even my tiny wallet and I find them completely pointless. They barely fit a credit card or a single key and neither the Backforty nor the Haskell pants are garments you would normally take on a gram-shaving roadie ride where you would needs to separate your credit card/key from your wallet/keyring. Plus there are already 2 other big pockets on the Backforty shirt and 5 other pockets on the Haskell pants, who needs one additional ultra tiny pocket? I think most customers would prefer to save $10-20 on the garment and not have a useless pocket. Overall though, I really love the Backforty and excited about taking it on some trips and bike commuting with it this summer.
Love my icons. Bought this as soon as I got the email. Great shirt. Worn it without an undershirt. In 80 degree summer weather, it was a bit warm, but when I rolled up the sleeves and unbottomed the top, it worked perfect. No heavy sweat saturation, breezy when it wants to be. Highly recommended.
