- snap jacket
- Polartec Alpha
- body proportions
I wanted one of these for a while. I have the Alpha snap jacket and after using it a lot last winter was 100% on board with Polartec Alpha. I held off buying this for a while based on reviews that it ran small - happy to report that I bought a size larger than normal and was able to wear it over an Icon. For reference, Icon is a size L athletic fit and the Arcana is XXL. It dries fast and doesn’t hold moisture.
Great material and good look. I have a long torso and the vest was not long enough; would be a fine fit for “standard” body proportions.
Very warm and very close fitting. I went with a size small and it definitely fits snugly which is good while on the bike. My helmet retention system does rub against the collar in the back which can be kind of annoying but isn't really a fault of the vest. Very pleased with how this fits and how warm it is. Like the pockets, especially internal zippered one.
I just returned from a 3 day , 220mile bikepacking trip in Southern VT. The Arcana vest was packed as a sort of 'extra' - that new piece of kit you really want to try, but don't really need. Long story short, it ended up being a critical layering piece as temps ranged from 25 deg to 70 deg on our ride. It was perfect over a couple of wool baselayers , partially unzipped on long steeeep climbs and then fully closed for bombing descents to shade of stream runs where cold air settles. Then under a vented parka when temps dipped and in the morning. It dried quick by the fire at night and was even functioned as the perfect neck roll sleeping in the bivvy. ON SIZING Fankly, I"m not sure what all the hullabaloo is about. Reading other comments on whack sizing, I ordered up to a large. It was too big. Returned for a Medium and it fit perfect. I would not layer this over anything like an Icon...fits great under actually. See pic . layered over an Escalator shirt, I believe (5"10, 170lbs)
Great vest with a number of well thought-out qualities. Unfortunately, even taking into account the advice to size-up, the vest is still very small. I wear an Icon in small and it fits perfectly, and a medium Arcana vest leaves is very tight across the shoulders and hips... Unfortunately, as I live in Europe exchanging the item for a larger size isn't feasible as I would have to cover all shipping costs associated with returning this item and receiving the larger size.
