We know riders who use our base short to provide a state-of-the-art chamois, in just the right place, while using one of our shorts for ruggedness, pockets, and riding functionality. This knicker-length base short provides all of the benefits and technology of our proven base layer, but protects and warms your knees as well.
When we designed this knicker, we went back to the drawing board. It wasn't enough to just cover your knees --any knicker can do that. So we added some features we think fit the cyclists menu: with articulated joints, abrasion protection and no-slip grips around your leg.
This knicker provides the first of its kind --compression support via wool-- enhancing the ride and recovery processes.
"After they broke in, I didn’t want to take them off. By the time we got to our resupply box, where I had a fresh pair of shorts and Kitsbow wool knee warmers, I was loving them so much I wasn’t about to risk messing around with warmers. Even a man who lives on the edge has his limits."
I wore these in Sicily on Mt Etna (active volcano) and it rained and snowed on us! Having something warm like this when wet was priceless! They fit great and I appreciated the subtle hits of Kitsbow graphics around the base so they looked a bit cooler than my roadie stuff.
I have used them a few times now and can really appreciate the extra length, and even after I get warmed up, these never feel to hot. The padding is the best I have ever experienced, like the short model, I don’t have to shift around to find that sweet spot on my saddle.
I've been looking for a pair of knickers for winter and shoulder season mountain bike riding for the last few years. I've been wearing a pair of Fox knickers and really enjoyed them but they were not durable or very warm. The Kitsbow knickers, while a bit pricey, are well worth it. The fabric on the knees has not even shown a scratch after a few spills and I've used the in conditions ranging from 30-50F and they've been adequately warm. Any warmer than 50F and they would be too warm for me. Per the sizing chart, I should have ordered a medium. However, I have muscular legs and went with a large and they are great. They are compression fit. I would highly recommend these bottoms.
The thought Kitsbow put into these knickers really showed the first time I pulled them on. They fit snug but aren't overly restricting, as I would expect for being a compression material. The front of the knee is slightly thicker than the back, helping to keep it insulated in the wind, but also providing additional protection and durability in the event of a tumble. I often wear knee warmers, so these will be perfect for those days and nights are a necessity the whole ride.
They feel a bit snug when you first put them on, but then they are unnoticeable on the ride and keep you nice and toasty warm. I like the reflective on the leg for night rides from the park.
