A well-designed mountain biking short, much like a well-designed trail, is born from a combination of passion and progression. The Origin short is the culmination of everything we’ve learned from five years of making uncompromising gear for real riders. We chose a unique Nylon woven fabric for its balance of breathability and durability, strategically placed pockets for riding position, and a ladder-locking adjustable waistband to dial in fit. Start with the Origin.
"The new Kitsbow Origin A/M short joined the ranks of favorites, thanks to a well thought out approach to the category, with a trim, fitted profile that shows a lot of attention was paid to the little things. But also importantly: pockets."
"When it comes to minimal, well-designed, tonal mountain bike clothing, one brand stands out above the rest: Kitsbow. The Petaluma, CA based brand is making some of the best mountain bike clothing on the market. Pieces like the Origin A/M short and the Trials Softshell waterproof jacket epitomize thoughtful design and have become staples in my mountain bike kit."
Top quality material and construction. I have a variety of riding shorts that I used to cycle through from all the big brands (POC, FOX, TLD, etc.), but these are now my standard go to shorts for trail riding when the weather is cool to warm. If the weather is warm to hot, I wear the Mescal Ventilated or Patagucci Dirt Roamers, both of which are also very very good. I am an athletic 5'11" with a 31" inseam and a 31" waist. The M fits perfectly at the knee when standing and just above the knee when riding. I have no issue with the fabric catching on the front of my knee or catching on the rear tire like I sometimes do with enduro/park shorts. The material is very robust and stands up to abuse. The mesh liner in the pockets helps with sweat and air flow, and the sweat band built into the waist is a nice touch for a guy like me that runs hot when exercising. The rear facing pockets work great for a phone or money clip (really great design innovation), and I I really like the hidden waist adjusters as it offers the functionality of an adjuster, but maintains the clean appearance. I am grateful these are only offered in one color... if there were more color options I would probably wind up buying them all...
Quality mountain bike shorts. Fit true-to-size, comfortable, disappear on the bike, do fine with kneepads, well-made and seem durable. The cut isn't quite as XCish as my original A/Ms. Why only 4 stars? A few quibbles which won't matter to many. Compared to my A/Ms, the fabric is less pleasing. I still smile every time I put my old A/Ms on, but the Origins have a bit of a cheap-raincoat, stiff-and-slippery feel to them. Doesn't detract from performance. The rear-facing pockets would be more useful if they were bigger (or in a different spot). I don't usually ride with my iphone in a shorts pocket but it'd be nice to be able to stash it there comfortably post-ride. The waist adjusters work but they're not as intuitive as others. Overall, I like them. I regularly choose them over a drawer full of decent alternatives, and I expect them to hold up for years. But it's appreciation I feel, not infatuation.
I am STOKED about the construction and fit of the Origin Short. I'm 5'11'' 175lbs and have thicker thighs and a big booty (comparatively). The fit for me is slim/form fitting perfection. There's plenty of room for a bib and the well tailored waistline prevents plumbers crack. The material has stretch and is just thick enough to take all kinds of abuse while feeling lightweight and comfortable. Honestly, I was apprehensive about spending the cash but once i slipped these shorts on, all my spending anxieties melted away. Get these shorts!!!
The origin short is a go-to for 3/4 of the year in NorCal, a bit heavy for Summer riding .. Easy to adjust, lots of pockets, a bit of stretch , and a practical cut for riding .. Not baggy, they don’t catch on your seat or chafe ..
Solid all around "baggy" for MTB and other on the bike cruising. A little more "bike oriented" fit than my Haskell lights, which I also love. Nice to not need a belt but have the elastic adjuster "belt" built into the orgins. Originally ordered a size small and needed to size up to a medium and the adjusters keep them snug while also giving me room for a bit of "winter form" in the waist area.
