This layer is top notch. I ride early, pre-sunrise, in northern CA and warm up fast especially on immediate steep uphill climbs. I run this layer in 38-55 degree weather. 38-45 either with a shell to start, or a merino base if the sun isn't coming out (fog). From 45-55 this sucker is prime time all alone - can easily go higher in temps as I run pretty hot compared to most and constantly have less clothing than my riding partners. Amazing stretch, really brethable, sleeves dont get TOO stretched out when you push them up, then pull them down for the ups and downs. Highly recommend. I may get a Large to use as a mid-layer over another base to make for a freezing temps warm combo that will still breathe when I sweat. I would agree with folks who review this and say it fits SLIGHTLY on the small side. I'm a Small in outdoor brands gear (Marmot, North Face, etc) and usually wear Mediums in Kitsbow tops. This is slimmer than my other 3 tops from Kitsbow (all others are SS Shirts). So if you are between sizes, go up. If you prefer a tighter fit, or worry about big vs. tight, stay true to size for a close to true size just a touch small. I'll probably trail run and backpack in this shirt too - awesome. Love the subdued branding too.
This Henley is made from a great fabric - soft and nicely stretchy. It’s an excellent layer for hiking and mountain biking but doesn’t look like technical gear, so you can really wear it anytime. I’m quite short, so even the small is a little long in the arms, but otherwise a great fit.
The Escalator was my first piece from Kitsbow (this is the second). I got it because I was looking for a durable blend of merino / poly as the 100% merino base layers I had been using were warm, but didn’t wear as long as I would have liked. The Escalator got it done - the first one is still going strong and I got a second because one is usually wet / dirty from frequent cold weather activities. The plastic snaps are awesome - they let you open the top while riding to regulate temperature. Even with gloves on. And If you layer it with an Icon shirt? You get the same benefit with both layers! (Awesome combo.. and I’m sure it’s not by accident)
The Merino Henley is an everyday staple. The fit is ridiculously perfect and the feel is luxurious. Have to come up with reasons not to wear everyday!
