Icons rule. For riding and civilian life they keep you warm, look good, and perform. The plastic snaps don’t rust and make it easy to open the shirt while riding to regulate temperature. The vents and articulated shoulders in the back keep you cool but are cleverly hidden. It’s a technical improvement on a classic shirt that is extremely well executed. When used with an escalator and layered with an Arcana, Alpha snap or Vertigo, it will give you the ability to ride in a wide range of colder temps, be comfortable, and look good while doing so. Some important sizing notes: my first icon was a v1, XL. Fit great. Later on, wanted another color and waited until my size was in stock. This was a v2, and was a bit tighter in the shoulders than the same size in v1. I called up Kitsbow, who are super awesome with customer service as well as sound advice. They had just come out with the relaxed fit icons, and after describing the fit, recommended a relaxed fit size L. And they were right - that got it DONE. Fast forward to recent times - was obsessed enough with the icon to get the one last color I wanted. This was also a relaxed L. This one fit a bit better than the earlier one - and it’s not that the earlier one fit badly, it’s just that this one was a bit better fit. I’m sure as time goes on, there are refinements to be made on all things. If you’re looking at the icon relaxed fit and don’t have one - add it now to your cart. Combining the legendary wool of Pendleton and Kitsbow’s thoughtful craftsmanship make the Icon a trail warrior that also can transition nicely to social hour. I wear the Icon when riding in fall (Crested Butte / Bend, OR) and winter conditions (NorCal). It is lightweight and keeps one toasty enough (when fully buttoned) that a jacket is not necessary. The Relaxed Athletic Fit is recommended; the Original Fit leaves little room for layering. Overall, the attention to detail, quality of stitching, and functionality of shoulder / armpit areas keep the rider warm without any clunky feel, enabling one to focus on enjoying the trail. Lastly, the Icon does not present any comfort / wear issues when using a backpack.
This shirt is hardy, made of best materials and just looks cool! I use this shirt as reliable technical GEAR as I marvel at its quality while knowing it just looks cool! Good job Kitsbow. The best.
My Kitsbow Icon (relaxed fit) is without a doubt the best designed and best constructed shirt that I have ever purchased. It is also the most expensive shirt that I have ever purchased; however even so, it is great value. It sets a new standard for melding form, function and fashion. The attention to details in design is immaculate: I love the vented back; high-quality snaps rather than buttons make it a breeze adjusting on the trail; the abrasion panels insure the shirt will endure the inevitable friction of shoulder pads of a hydration or day pack. It is perfect for traveling light, as you can go straight from the trail to casual social situations and look great. I plan to be wearing the Icon for years to come.
