Merino Knicker Base Short

When it's cold enough to wear your knee warmers the whole ride, they might as well be a part of your base layer. Our 3/4 length Merino Base Knicker is designed to do just that. Made with the same fabric and padded insert as our Merino Base Short, the Knicker gets a few extra details to enhance cold-weather riding, such as reinforced/weather resistant knees and extra abrasion resistance in the seat.

Fabrication & Features

  • By combining 45% nylon, 39% New Zealand Merino wool, and 16% spandex, the primary fabric strikes an ideal balance between durability, warmth, and stretch
  • 3XDRY water resistant finish on Schoeller stretch woven patches on the knees add extra durability and abrasion-resistance
  • Special seat panel made of 49% nylon, 25% polyester and 16% elastic provides additional abrasion resistance and faster drying when the trail gets really wet and grimy
  • Style lines quietly match the lines of the Kitsbow All-Mountain Short collection for a seamless layering interface
  • The Cytech padded insert incorporates carbon yarn to expedite dry time and improve the pad's anti-microbial properties
  • Cytech pad features unique two-part construction to achieve anatomic fit while the extra-thin ultrasonic seam welding construction eliminates any potential chafe points
  • Wear alone or combine with our Soft Shell All-Mountain Short
  • Made in North America (Canada)

"I rode Kitsbow’s Knicker Base Short, the Soft Shell A/M Short and the Ride Tee. The workmanship throughout bordered what I’d expect from a tailor. I tend to be deliberately rough on stuff in the first few outings because I want to find out of there are any weak seams, any substandard fabrics or threads. On occasion, I’ll hear a pop (or two) and on two occasions I had a seam unravel, even without provocation. I’ve gone down on the Kitsbow stuff (on the dirt, not the road) and can’t find any record of the falls, even abrasions to the fabric, though I can assure you the skin in my shoulder and hip sure were. Best bike "shorts" I own

Very comfortable- I was a little skeptical when I saw the chamois (thinner looking than I'm used to) but it was perfect! No bulk but great comfort. My new favorite chamois.

beautiful craftsmanship

It is mid summer but I did get a ride in with these 3/4 length shorts. I put my G Form Knee, shim pads underneath the short so they stay in place. They worked great and the shammy felt good but needs to be broken in a bit more. The fabrics are top quality.

Well made

The knicker base is a very nicely constructed and thought out piece. Fit is right on with other Kitsbow stuff. Below the knees doesn't feel constrictive. Comfortable.

Nice fit

Though I have not risen in them yet the fit and feel is nice, sizing is true to fit like it says and I can't wait for winter!

Incredible......Thank you!

I cannot deny my huge man crush for knickers. I've tried many for many years. I've always had gripes with the others. My biggest one? When they rely on a tight elastic for your calf muscle area to keep them in place. Oops! That's the mistake. This only results in the entire elastic band riding up into the area behind your knee. This feels awkward and usually results with chaffing behind the knee or just pain. The problem seems the fit and placement of the actual pieces of fabrics or lack of. Kitsbow thought this out for us. The attention to detail is incredible as is the fit. I spend countless hours in the saddle and I look for these often. They've saved my butt in more ways than one in the past and even after hundreds of wash cycles they feel the same. Amazing! Let's add bib straps and knock it out of the park Kitsbow. I almost forgot if you've never owned merino wool items don't be fooled. The feel and touch is soft, never itchy nor to warm or cool. Temperature regulation is beyond amazing. Thanks again as always Kitsbow!
